Rebecca Henry holds The Scott Bendann Chair in Classical Music at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, MD, where she has been on the faculty for over thirty years. She helped create the Performance/Pedagogy Masters Degree at the Peabody Conservatory and teaches Violin Pedagogy and a series of Pedagogy Master Classes and Teacher Workshops.

As Chair of the Peabody Preparatory String Department, she has guided the development of one of the most comprehensive pre-college string programs in the country, teaches violin and viola, co-directs the Peabody Chamber Camp, and directs the Peabody Pre-Conservatory Violin Program, which was founded with funding from the Dorothy Richard Starling Foundation.

Ms. Henry also teaches String Pedagogy at the University of Maryland and was Assistant Professor of Viola at the Gettysburg College Sunderman Conservatory of Music for eight years.

She performs  in faculty chamber ensembles and with the Washington Chamber Orhcestra and during the summers she returns to her alma mater, where she studied with Georges Janzer, Mimi Zweig and Kim Kashkashian, and teaches at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Summer String Academy and Teacher’s Retreat for Professional Violinists and Violists.

Ms. Henry has presented master classes and workshops throughout U.S and in Canada, Scotland and Turkey, does consulting work for string studios and schools, has conducted youth and all-county orchestras, co-edited two series of contemporary music for violin ensembles, and was featured in STRAD Magazine.  She has presented pedagogy sessions at national conferences for ASTA, MTNA and SAA, and was invited to give the Pre-College Violin Master Class at the 2014 National ASTA Conference.

Her awards include Teacher of the Year and Outstanding Service to Strings from MD/DC ASTA, the Excellence in Teaching Award from The Peabody Preparatory, and she is listed “Who’s Who of American Teachers”.  Her students have won a variety of regional and national competitions, and her former students are performing and teaching around the world.
