For violinists ages 12-18 at the upper intermediate and advanced levels

Monday – Thursday June 21-24, 2021

10:00-3:00 EDT (Eastern Daylight Time)

IN-PERSON LAB in Frederick, MD

Daily Schedule

     10:00  Warm Ups: Etudes, Vibrato, Shifting

     11:00  Scales/Arpeggios: Bow Strokes, Double Stops

     12:00  Lunch

     12:45  Repertoire: Practice strategies for challenging sections

     1:45    Discussion: Time management, practice organization, motivation

      2:15    Musical Integration: Support interpretation with technical choices

We are looking forward to week of discovering ways to practice more efficiently using a variety of strategies and the participant’s creative input.  Participants should plan for an hour per day of home practice to apply the concepts from Practice Lab.

This will be a hybrid environment, in which the In-Person Lab activities will be live-streamed to the Online Lab participants.  An instructor will be dedicated to each Lab, rotating throughout the week, and some activities will include interaction amongst all the students.  Only In-Person participants will submit and perform repertoire excerpts for the Repertoire and Musical Integration sessions.

Application for Practice Lab ’21 requires submitting two forms by May 8, 2021

     Video Audition Requirements:

            Two scales, as instructed below, and two contrasting pieces (one may be an etude) demonstrating technical and musical variety.

             Memory and accompaniment are not required.

         Submit three separate video links.

             1. Two scales on one video:

                           Three-octave Bb Major scale, slurring eight 16th notes (Quarter = 50-70)

Three -octave scale, any key, Spiccato, 1 note per bow, 16th notes (Quarter = 70)

             2.  Piece 1

             3.  Piece 2/Etude

Online Lab           (Limited to 15 participants):          $375

Acceptance

         • Acceptance notifications will be emailed within two weeks of receiving the Application and Video Audition Links.

             All notifications will be emailed by May 10.  

         •  Full payment will be due upon acceptance. Your invoice will include details on payment options (PayPal, Zelle, credit card). 

         •  Wait-lists will be maintained for both the In-Person and Online options as needed.

         •  Refunds

a.90% refund with written notification by May 15  

b.50% refund with written notification by June 1

c.No refunds after June 7

HEALTH PROTOCOL

-Both instructors are fully vaccinated for COVID and will be tested the week prior to VP Lab.  Required social distancing will be maintained, and all faculty and students will be required to wear masks.
